What is Relay For Life?
In 2015 the Sutherland Shire Relay saw 1000s of visitors on the weekend and raised $470,000 for Cancer Council NSW making it one of the biggest fundraising events of its kind. But what is Relay? Relay is more than just a fundraising event, its one fantastic weekend with something for everyone! Big stage, live music, great food, super rides and games for the kids – so much to do and yet these are just the side shows, because Relay For Life is a celebration of life, a time to remember those lost and an opportunity to Fight Back against cancer. It’s a team event where friends, family or co-workers register a team, then come down on the weekend and take turns to walk, run or jog to raise money for Cancer Council NSW while having an amazing time. The idea is to have one person from the team on the track at all times in a Relay style event. While many camp out for the entirety, some visit Relay for just a few hours, but no one leaves without being affected because Relay is full of emotion and pure inspiration. Over 15 years this amazing experience has raised over 5 million dollars toward the fight against cancer.
